Abstract

Aim: This research aimed to identify the career path challenges of people with visual disabilities in their job search. Methods: The research method was qualitative and interpretive phenomenological research. The population of the present study was all disabled people with visual impairment (completely blind) in Tehran province in 2024. Sampling was carried out in a purposeful manner and until the limit of data saturation and finally the selection of 15 participants. The research tool was a semi-structured interview made by the researcher. The Colaizzi method was used to analyze the data. Results: Data analysis led to the identification of 61 primary concepts, 9 sub-themes and 3 main themes. The main and secondary themes include: The role of the individual (personality structures, fears, and skill deficiencies); Social status (negative atmosphere of society, lack of education, job restrictions, and annoying relationships), and Family role (biased family interactions and lack of differentiation). Conclusion: The findings of the present study show that, given the unique circumstances of the blind, it is very important to pay attention to individual and surrounding issues, including society and family, in their career path. It is suggested that skill-based training programs and counseling be implemented in the context of the current culture to select and stabilize the careers of this group of people.
