Perceived Social status and its organizational, managerial and political predictors among faculty members

Abstract

Perceived social status was considered as psychosocial process that could effective on the scientific and professional life of faculty members. The aim of this study was to investigate perceived social status and it’s organizational, managerial and political predictors among faculty members in one of the Tehran province university. Participants were 135 individuals from one of the state university in Tehran which selected by convenient method. Data was collected by perceived social status questionnaire, perceived organizational support questionnaire, perceived political scale, participation in organizational decisions scale. Findings showed that % 40 of participants believed that the social status of faculty members was decreased. Correlational and regression model revealed that participation in organizational decision-making (% 13), perceived organizational politics (% 3) and perceived organizational support (% 1) could predict perceived social status. It seems that increasing participation of faculty members in university decisions, providing political space based on justice and tolerance and enhancing emotional and physical support could increase perceived social status and develop prestigious life style.
