Successful Students' Experiences about growth path of Career Selection: A Qualitative Research

Abstract

the aim of this study was to evaluate successful students' lived experiences about the growth pathof career selection. This qualitative study was carried out using a phenomenological approach. To this end, 17 successful students who completed four terms of the study were studied through in-depth interviews and explorations. Data was collected, recorded and encoded and categorized in the main categories. The analysis of participants' experiences led to the identification of 510 initial codes, 27 sub-themes and seven main themes including individual factors, environmental factors, self-knowledge, academic skills, decision-making problems, career goals, and career maturity. The results showed that factors such as personality, interests, values, atmosphere of learning environment, socioeconomic class, family, pattern, self-concept, academic self-concept, developmental experiences, planning, meta-cognitive skills, lack of readiness, lack of preparation, lack of information, inconsistent information, low data, inaccurate information, advancement motivation, religious requirement, decision skill, understanding relationship between academic achievement and job planning, positive attitude to job and education, skills in acquiring job information, understanding the impact of work on life and understanding the impact of community needs on the nature and structure of the job plays an important role in the growth of individuals in the process of developing the career path
