The present study aimed to examine the mediating role of cognitive flexibility in the relationship between personality traits and coping styles. The research method was correlational. The research population consisted of all male drivers of bus terminals of Tehran. Two hundred ten males were selected by multistage random sampling. Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (Endler & Parker, 1990), NEO Personality Inventory (Costa & McCrae, 1992), Cognitive Flexibility Inventory (CFI) (Dennis & Vanderwal, 2010) were used to collect data. Data were analyzed by Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) using Amos-21 and SPSS-19. The results showed a negative relationship between neuroticism and problem-focused coping style and a negative relationship between emotion orientation and avoidance and problem-focused coping style (P<0.05). There was a positive relationship between extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and a problem-oriented coping style, and a negative relationship with emotion-oriented and avoidant coping styles (P<0.05). Openness to experience was not related to coping styles significantly, but openness to experience had not a significant relationship with coping styles. Neuroticism, extraversion, and conscientiousness indirectly affected problem-focused coping styles through cognitive flexibility (P<0.05). Neuroticism and conscientiousness indirectly affected emotion-focused coping styles through cognitive flexibility (P<0.05). The indirect effects of personality traits on coping style avoidance by cognitive flexibility were discarded.
