Abstract
The aim of the current study was to explain unemployed jobseekers’ psychological and social problems and needs, and to identify their needs in the path toward occupational decision making. The qualitative research design was based on Grounded Theory. The study population consisted of unemployed jobseekers covered by the unemployment insurance. The number of participants (12 unemployed persons) was determined according to data saturation principle and in a purposive way. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews, focus groups and observation. Findings of data analysis showed that unemployed jobseekers experience psychological consequences of loss and social isolation in losing their job. Moreover, they have problem with choosing the proper goal and plan for job seeking and obtaining skill for effective occupational decision making, and need to be trained in order to reevaluate their capabilities, choose proper goal and program, collect occupational data correctly, promote problem solving skills, and finally to make effective occupational decisions.
